HEINE CUP FINAL TO CANTERVRY
Canterbury regained the Seine Cup from Otago when the two teama met in the final of the quadrangular table tennis tournament held at Dunedin on Saturday night. Although Otago was without Misses Y. M. and M. J. Fogarty it ts doubtful if it would have won had they played, as Canterbury comfortably won the men’s section by 8 matches to Although B. A. Foster (Otago) won his singles matches, be did not play with the same assurance as in previous matches this season. His form could have been attributed to bls losing some of bls confidence because of his heavy defeats by the English players, D. Neale and S. Gibbs.
The former Canterbury player, B. Kendal, was Otago's most impressive player and should have beaten w. T. Scott In straight games. The highlight of the earlier matches was the defeat of Ung Nan Ming (Canterbury) who was surprisingly beaten by South Canterbury’s C. McKenzie. Results of the final matches were (Canterbury names first): MIN Singles.—J. Armstrong lost to B. A. Foster, 22-20, 18-21, 15-21; beat G. Williams, 21-16. 21-14. V. N. Brightwell lost to Foster. 13-21, 18-21; beat Williams, 22-18, 21-12. Ling Nan Ming beat B. Kendall, 21-11. 21-7; beat P. Collett, 21-10. 21-8. W. T. Scott beat Kendall, 14-21. 24-22, 21-13: beat Collett, 21-18, 21-18.
Doubles. Brightwell and Scott lost to Foster and Williams, 10-21, 22-23; beat Collett and Kendall, 18-21, 23-21. 21-12. Armstrong and Ung Nan Ming beat Collett and Kendall, 21-10, 21-10; lost to Foster and Williams, 23-25, 21-23.
WOMIN Singles.—Miss V. I. Braomann beat Mrs M. Barnes, 21-15, 21-15; beat Mrs P. Wilson. 21-12, 21-14. Mrs T. May beat Mrs Barnes, 21-10, 21-0: beat Mrs Wilson. 21-15, 21-15. Mrs J. Green lost to Mrs B. Sutherland, 7-21. 21-15. 18-21: beat Miss C. Leith, 21-18, 21-17. Miss J. Stead lost to Mrs Sutherland, 10-21, 21-11, 16-21; lost to Miss Leith, 12-21. 11-21. Doubles.—Miss Braumann and Mrs May beat Mrs Sutherland and Miss Leith, 21-15, 12-21, 21-15; beat Mesdames Barnes and Wilson, 21-10, 21-17. Mrs Green and Miss Stead beat Mesdames Barnes and Wilson, 24-22,
