Fawkes, Kelly And Company
Famous Rogues. By Mary Cathcart Borer. Longmans. 159 pp.
The rogues selected for inclusion in this volume range from Guy Fawkes to Ned Kelly. The list, of course, is not exhaustive for the period covered by the lives of these two famous gentlemen. There must be many candidates for inclusion, and to mention them all would no doubt take a book of enormous proportions. The eight subjects dealt with here are well enough known as rogues but most people would be hard put to it to explain what they had done to achieve this notoriety. The author sets out details of their crimes plainly and fully, in a manner that both young and old can understand and enjoy. This is perhaps not a book to be read at once from cover to cover, but is handy to have for reference to refresh the memory, on, say. Colonel Blood or Jesse James.
