Discussions By Youth
Mr E. B. E. Taylor, the former New Zealand Ambassador to Japan, Dr. A. M, Finlay, member of Parliament for Waitakere, Sir Leslie Munro, member of Parliament for Waipa, and Mr D J, Ryan, the Australian Trade Commissioner in the South Island, will be among speakers at the youth forum to be held by the Canterbury Youth Council.
Reporting to a meeting of the council, Mr A. Ross, , the organiser, said that I the two members of Parlia- ' ment had said they would at- - tend if at all possible, but i they could not guarantee that other important business i could intervene. They will i discuss the political implicai tions of aid and trade pro--1 ‘grammes in Asia.
Mr Ross said that he thought the theme of "Asia Aid and Trade” was very timely as New Zealand was now faced with the need of looking closely at the responsibilities and challenges facing Asia, and its part in that part of the world. Other speakers at the forum will be Mr G. A. Skipper, director of Volunteer Service Abroad, and Mr J. Ryan, export liaison officer of the Department of Industries and Commerce. The council executive felt that there was a need for the council to have a look at leadership training, Mr R. Consedine, the council president, told the meeting. The matter will be discussed by the member bodies and then by another meeting of the executive.
Mr L. Coughlan, Christchurch Youth Activities Officer, said that the Mountain Safety Committee was planning a training course for experienced people at Arthur’s Pass in September. A large display at the Industries Fair was also being planned-
