INTEREST IN LEASE

Pulp Mill Property

Considerable interest was being shown in the re-leasing of the land just north of the Waimakariri river which Forest Products, Ltd., wished to give up as the site for a proposed paper pulp mill, said Mr N. S. Coad, at a meeting of the North Canterbury Catchment Board yesterday. For the reserves committee, Mr Coad said that there had been inquiries about the land from the Canterbury Progress League and Dalgety and N.Z. Loan, Ltd. The board agreed to cancel the Forest Products lease from December 28, and to inform the inquirers that the land would be advertised for lease in due course. Mr Coad said that the board’s staff had been asked to report on the future of the area, including its possible zoning.

“All we are interested in is that the best possible use be made of available industrial land,” said the league’s secretary (Mr A. McKenzie). “We have no one in view as a possible tenant, and just asked the board what the facts were.”

The Dalgety-Loan application was made by the firm’s land department as agents.
