RICCARTON HOUSE

Redecoration Programme

Interior and exterior renovations at Riccarton House have been completed for the Riccarton Bush Trustees at a cost of $7lOO, and a further $1360 has been spent on tarsealing the driveway. It cost $l9OO to paint the exterior of the old house, and $3OO to paint and paper the ballroom, fit new drapes and sand the floor.

The bar, completely refurbished, is now carpeted and has proper glass-washing facilities, Replacing an old bath. The existing kitchen has been modernised, and a new kitchen created from a store-room, thus enabling two functions to be catered for at the same time. Electric wall-type heaters have been fitted in the public rooms, and the trust now has plans to redecorate the supper-room. The trust’s secretary (Mr D. T. Gainsford) said that the premises were regularly used for meetings by local organisations, and for receptions and dances.
