Freight Rise Study

Increased shipping freight rates from the United Kingdom were becoming almost an annual occurrence and necessitated the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce having a look at the reasons for it said the vicepresident (Mr E. J. Puny) at the monthly meeting of the chamber’s council ok Wednesday. He was commenting on the announced increase of 5 per cent in shipping freight rates from the United Kingdom to New Zealand from November 1.

Mr Parry said that he thought much of the increased cost was caused by delays and costs of handling shipping around the New Zealand coastline.
