DREDGE SAFE

Towed To Whangaroa (N.Z. Press Association) KAEO, August 3. The Australian dredge, WD 53, which sent out a Mayday call yesterday when about 100 miles west of Cape Reinga after being in danger of sinking through flooding, reached the safety of Whangaroa Harbour about 3 p.m. today. The dredge, owned by the Westminster Dredging Proprietory, Ltd., was towed to about a mile north of the Whanglroa wharf by the Northland Harbour Board's tug Herekino. The crew seemed to have the flooding well under control and the ship was rising 2ft an hour as the water was pumped out.
