South Star Away As Athenian Sky
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Aug. 3. The South Star arrived at Dunedin yesterday and the Athenian Sky is due to sail late today. They are the same vessel.
Painters were busy today affixing a new name—the third—on the 9010-ton general cargo ship’s bow and stem.
The South Star arrived yesterday on an outward-voyage charter from Britain, and is scheduled to take leave of
her Birch street moorings as the Athenian Sky. And last year the ship was at Dunedin as the Dona Gisella, her original dubbing. Obviously those who decided on Dona Gisella meant it to stick—the name was cast in iron and fastened to the side so that in spite of a paint cover, it still stands out Her original owners eame under the title of General Navigation Trading S.A., out of Piraeus (Greece). As the South Star she was owned by the Home Navigation Company, Ltd., also out of Piraeus.
Lloyds Register of Shipping has yet to record the name of the new owners—but they are likely to have the same office and have Piraeus as their home port. The Athenian Sky will sail for Geelong . . . and, who knows, a new name?
