Volunteer Rate 4650 A Month (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Aug. 3. More than 100,000 Americans have volunteered for duty in Vietnam in the last three years and the rate at present is 4650, a month, the United States Army said this week, according to the Associated Press. In a special accounting of volunteer manpower, the Army said 88,166 officers and enlisted men had actually been assigned to Vietnam by choice between July 1, 1964, and June 30 this year. During that time, the Army said, 103,635 military personnel volunteered to serve in Vietnam. Some had had to wait for an opening in their grade and speciality, but volunteers were normally considered immediately available.
