The South Canterbury Car Club’s club-rooms are being shifted from Saltwater Creek to the site of the proposed permanent racing circuit in Falveys road, Levels. Specifications for the one-mile sealed circuit on the 35-acre property are almost complete, and it is expected forming and sealing will not take long. The club intends to hold a national meeting this year, and run the Timaru Trophy Race next February. The circuit will be one mile west of the Timaru airport and close to the Main south and west highways. It will be eight miles north of Timaru. There are paved access roads and excellent parking facilities. The track will be similar in shape to Levin, but with a flattened hairpin. The back straight will be long enough for standing quarter-mile sprints. • • «

Denis Hulme Is a clear leader in this year’s world drivers’ championship with 22 points, six more than Jack Brabham. So far five different drivers have each won a race, and all won on American tyres. P. Rodriguez (Mexico) is third in the championship with 12 points, C. Amon (New Zealand) is fourth, and Jim Clark (Scotland) is fifth. Jackie Stewart (Scotland) is sixth.

Enzo Ferrari has announced he will enter at least two cars in the 1968 Indianapolis 500 race. They will have 550 b.h.p. 4.2litre V-12 engines. • * * Officers elected at the annual meeting of the Canterbury branch of the Vintage Car Club were: Chairman, Mr D. P. Manhart; secretary, Mr N. C. Skevington; treasurer, Mr E. R. L. Galt; club captain, Mr I. D. Taylor; committee, Messrs G. M. Bain, R. C. Chenery, I. Donaldson, L. W. Humm, G. ' Paterson, and A. J. Wills; delegate to the V.C.C. of New Zealand, Mr Skevington. * * * The Commission Sportive has decided to recommend that all big sports car races next season—including Le Mans—should be restricted to sportsprototypes of not more than 3-litres, and sports cars and G.T. cars of not more than 5-litres. * * * The Fiat 500 Club’s first rally earlier this month was won by B. Higham (Volkswagen), with G. Clarke (Fiat 500) second and C. Morris (Volkswagen) third. The women’s section was won by Mrs D. E. Holdem (Fiat 500), with Miss C. Scott (Fiat 500) second, and Miss L. Yesberg (Fiat 500) third. The club, formed in May, now has nearly 60 members, and Interested persons can ring the president, Mr W. A. Holdem, at 554-319. Membership is not restricted to owners of Fiat 500 cars. Since the club was formed it has also held driving tests and several trips.
