BOXING SERIES

Patterson Enters

(N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) NEW YORK.

Floyd Patterson, who has twice held the world heavyweight boxing championship, has agreed to take part in an eight-man elimination tournament for the title. I Mr M. Malitz, president of Sport Action Incorporated, said Patterson would probably meet Jerry Quarry in the tournament which his promoting body plans to stage to find a successor to Cassius Clay. If Quarry decided not to sign, a replacement would be suggested by the World Boxing Association, he said.

Clay was stripped of his title by the World Boxing Association and the New York State Athletic Commission, the main boxing authorities in the United States, after refusing call-up into the United States Army.
