The highly-regarded Wallabies Red team was well beaten, 10-2. by Selwyn I during the' round of the A table tennis competition last eV i e n ni ?he first round. Wallabies Bed beat Selwyn I by ■ big margin, but strengthened by the inclusion of P. S. Alexander, Selwyn I was too consistent for Walables Red last e The n third ranked Canterbury player. V. N. Brightwell (Selwyn I) beat N. B. Radford, 21-13, 217 ’in good style, although Badford appeared to be below form after his excellent display this season. The improving Avonside i team beat the second team in the grade, Riccarton, by U games to IS. A feature ot this contest was the continuance of J. Armstrong’s run of wins over the Malaysian, Ling Nan Ming. Lin Nan Ming has appeared to resign himself to defeat when he has played Armstrong recently and this was reflected in Armstrong’s easy 21-12, 21-12 win last evening. Dallington won its first match for some time and Linwood I was a little lucky to beat Selwyn 11. Avonside II appeared sluggish in its first A grade match of the season after being Sromoted, and lost, 1-11, to oon Hay. _ Points are:—Hoon Hay 18, Riccarton and Selwyn I 14, Wallabies Red 13, Linwood I and Avonside I 12, Dallington 9.
