40 Killed When Train Hits Bus

BANGKOK, July 7. Forty people were killed and 39 injured, many of them seriously, when a packed, driverless bus rolled into the path of an oncoming passenger train in the north-eastern town of Korat yesterday.

Reports said bodies of the dead, dying and injured were strewn over a wide area after the express train, travelling from north-eastern Nongkhai to Bangkok, hit the bus. Twenty-two of the dead were women and children and a Buddhist priest Ten of the injured were still unconscious, the reports said. The driver of the bus, who jumped to safety when the

bus rolled towards the railway line, has been detained by police.
