Contest For Teen-agers

Two hundred Christchurch teen-agers are expected to take part in the local contest of a national competition organised by chapters of the Junior Chamber of Commerce to create a greater awareness of better driving habits. In the next two months Jaycee chapters in 84 towns will organise such contests. Winners of local contests will compete for the national title at New Brighton on September 9 and 10. No district finals have been held yet Those in the Christchurch district are expected to be completed by the end of July. Each local and the national contest will consist of road behaviour tests, knowledge of traffic laws and skill tests. Contestants will be judged by expert drivers and traffic officers. To ensure uniformity, all drivers will compete in the same make of car in the finals. Entry is open to all under 21 at September 11,1967, who hold a current valid driver’s licence. National prizes include an eight-day visit to Fiji, a fiveday trip to Norfolk Island, and an air travel voucher for travel In the Dominion.
