DISPUTE AT BURNSIDE
Delegate To Be Prosecuted
The New Zealand Freezing Union of Employers had taken action to prosecute the Burnside slaughtermen’s delegate (Mr L. Meehan) for allegedly inciting or instigating a strike at the Burnside works on March 17, said the general manager of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, Ltd. (Mr W. M. Cleland) yesterday. He said that such cases could not, by law, be taken by the individual freezing company. The general secretary of New Zealand Freezing Workers’ Association (Mr F. E. McNulty) yesterday said that this was the second prosecution since the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act was amended in 1962, to allow such prosecutions.
It was set down for hearing in the Dunedin Magistrate’s Court on July 18.
