S. CANTERBURY DOG SALE
High Prices Paid At Studholme The first dog sale to be held in South Canterbury was held at the Studholme saleyards, Buyers were present from all over the South Island and dogs were entered from Arrowtown to Rangiora.
A possible New Zealand record price of £230 was obtained by Mr Donald McPherson of Ikawai, Waimate, for a 17-month-old bitch named Joy, which has already won numerous trials and recently competed in the New Zealand championships at Rotorua.
Another good price was paid for a two-and-a-half-year-old good handy dog in the huntaway class, which sold for £92 10s, the vendor being Mr R. Bell, of Waimate.
The dogs put on trial before buyers on a difficult course, somewhat different from the usual South Island sale.
Quite a number of sales were in the £6Oi£Bo range; others ranged £3ff£4o; only a few were below this.
