Mayor Attempts To Retain Air Link
(New Zealand Press Association)
HAMILTON, July 3.
The Mayor of Hamilton (Dr. D. Rogers) intends to approach airline companies and aero clubs to see whether they are interested in establishing a Hamilton-Gisborne air link if the National Airways Corporation cuts its service over the route.
Dr. Rogers said this today after meeting the general manager of N.A.C., Mr D. A. Patterson, in Hamilton. After the meeting Mr Patterson said N.A.C. planned to cut the thrice-weekly service. The proposal will be heard before the Air Services Licensing Authority at a hearing in Hamilton on July 18. Dr. Rogers said he would.
try Golden Coast Airlines Ltd., Adastra Aviation, James Aviation and aero clubs and others that might be interested in starting such a service if the licensing authority agreed to N.A.C.’s application. Dr. Rogers said he made the point that Hamilton did not want “a vacuum” if N.A.C. could not continue, the service.
