Cabinet Approves Wool Floor Price
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, July 3.
The Wool Commission’s recommendation on next season’s floor price for wool has been approved by the Government and is expected to be announced towards the end of this week.
At a press conference tonight the Acting Prime Minister (Mr Marshall) said: “It is now over to the commission and the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) to fix the floor prices. Consultations with the Government on the price have been completed.” Replying to questions, Mr Marshall said: “This is a most unusual situation and has not happened in my experience before—where the commission has required some sort of financial backing.” The backing was required because of the commission’s high expenditure on wool in the past season.
Asked earlier today if the Government was considering any other proposals for selling wool, Mr Marshall replied: “1 think you would only confuse the position if I made any comment.”
