Preparing For Change

Some shopkeepers will be caught napping on D.C. Day, but wide-awake businessmen have realised that customers will be relying on them for help in the change to decimal currency next Monday and have spent time preparing for the change-over. Most large organisations have been working on their own training programmes. Many small shopkeepers have attended instruction courses. One organisation that has arranged decimal instruction talks, typical of a number, is the Good Housekeeping Bureau, South Island, Ltd. The manager (Mr M/ S. Hunter) said there were 250 stores in the Canterbury and South Canterbury area. Fourteen classes had reached, over 300 shopkeepers and and assistants, he said. Storekeepers were being encouraged to change to dollars and cents on Monday, July 10, although this was an individual decision, he added. Mr Hunter said the general standard of performance at cash handling classes had been very good. The whole idea behind the instruction was to prepare shopkeepers to answer the questions of shoppers and to become familiar with handling dollars and cents.
