Meeting On Sale Of Sections
Efforts by those who want to buy the sections they lease from the Lyttelton Borough Council were taken a stage further at last night’s meeting of the counciL
The solicitors for the Lyttelton Lease-holders’ Association wrote asking the council to meet the association. They said that the council had refused to sell the sections at Government valuation plus 10 per cent The solicitors said that in fairness to those who wanted to buy their sections, the council should make a decision either not to sell or to sell on different terms. Cr. E. A. Camfield said that the council had agreed to discuss policy, and should not agree to a meeting until that had been settled. A sub-committee could get
the views of the association, said Cr. J. L. Baines. It was agreed, on the motion of Cr. R. H. Duff, that the finance committee would meet the association after the subject had been discussed by the council. Hospital.—Reporting on a deputation to the Minister of Health (Mr McKay) to ask for the retention of the Lyttelton maternity hospital, Cr.
N. D. Walker said that the
minister was awaiting a report from the hospitals advisory committee, and would make a decision based on all the factors.
Meeting.—The provision of more building sites at Diamond Harbour was proposed in a letter from the Diamond Harbour and District Business Association, which said it had a new approach to the problem. It was agreed that the town planning committee should meet the association.
Compensation. Proposals for compensation for gas consumers as a result of the decision to close the Lyttelton gas-works next March, had not been completed, said Cr. Walker.
