HELICOPTERS SHOT DOWN

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SAIGON, July 2.

American low-flying Dragonship aircraft and artillery went into action today against Viet Cong who attacked three American outposts with mortars during the night, a United States military spokesman said.

He said the Viet Cong fired more than 25 rounds of mortar fire within three hours last night and early today on three positions of the United States Ist Cavalry Division outside the town of Bong Son in the central coastal province of Binh Dinh.

Elsewhere, ground fire from the Viet Cong brought down two American Army helicopters yesterday, but only one man was wounded.
