HARBOUR SURVEY

Opposition Of

Engineers

(N.Z. Press Association)

ROTORUA, July 2. Consulting engineers at their annual conference at Wairakei yesterday strongly opposed a reported Government move to invite British consultants to survey the harbours of Auckland, Wellington. Timaru, and Bluff. The Minister of Marine (Mr Scott) was reported to have said in Parliament that the chairman of the British Shipowners' Committee (Mr W. Molyneaux) had recommended the consultations to the Government because he felt the survey should be independent of shipowners’ interests.

The surveys would determine the suitability of the harbours for container shipping within the next 50 years, the report explained.
