FERTILISER PRICES

Some Cuts Announced

Reductions in the prices of some fertilisers have been announced by Kempthome Prosser and Company. The manager of the company’s Hornby works, Mr G. A. Claridge, said reductions of £3 0s 6d a ton in the price of sulphate of ammonia and 18s 6d a ton in the price of muriate of potash would take effect when the new season’s prices for phosphatic fertiliser were gazetted early this month.

The new price for sulphate of ammonia would be £23 Is 6d a ton and for muriate of potash £lB 12s 6d. The prices quoted were ex works, Hornby, to the farmer in bulk. The price reductions were a result of keen competition among overseas suppliers, said Mr Claridge. ,The large reduction in the price of sulphate of ammonia was because of the recent arrival of a 1000-ton bulk shipment at Lyttelton. This was available immediately from the works in bulk and bags.
