DECIMAL CHANGE
Observers Arrive
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, July 2. The chairman of Britain’s Decimal Currency Board, Sir William Fiske, arrived at Wellington yesterday to observe New Zealand’s currency change. The secretary of the British Decimal Currency Board, Mr N. E. A Moore, and the Assistant Secretary of the United Kingdom Treasury, Mr P. J. Kittcat, accompanied Sir William Fiske. On the same flight were two observers from Zambia, which will convert to decimal currency on January 16 next year.
Sir William Fiske said he was impressed with the ease of Australia’s change last year and wanted to see what took place in New Zealand. He said the British change early in 1971 could be less complicated because the pound would be retained as the major decimal unit to preserve Britain's sterling value.
