CHIEF’S SON IN VIETNAM

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 27. Second-Lieutenant M. W. Thornton, son of New Zealand’s Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant-General Sir Leonard Thornton, has left on a 12-month tour of duty with the 161st Battery at Nui Dat, South Vietnam.

He travelled with a party of replacements last week and will serve in the battery now being used in support of New Zealand infantry.
