Calm To Take Wheat Cargoes
The Canterbury Steam Shipping Company’s coastal motor vessel Calm will be fitted with an athwartship bulkhead in her single hold to comply with the requirements of bulk wheat cargoes when she arrives at Lyttelton today. The job will take about a week. The 786-ton Calm will trade on the coast to ports where bulk wheat cargoes are required, according to the company's managing-director, Mr C. 11. Crombie. OLDEST SHIP IN FLEET The Port Line's refrigerated cargo liner Port Quebec, which has been loading refrigerated and general cargo at Lyttelton for the West Indies, is the company’s oldest serving vessel. Built by J. L. Thompson and Sons, Ltd., of Sunderland, in 1939, she is a single screw vessel of 6777 tons gross and commanded by Captain J. A. McManus.
