School Insurance For Golf Practice
A public risk insurance policy will be taken out by the Christchurch Girls’ High School to enable it to provide golf practice for pupils in Hagley Park. The policy is a condition laid down by the City Council in its granting of permission to the school to use grounds for golf practice. Miss P. M. Robinson, the principal, told the monthly meeting of the board of governors, that the school had used the park for hockey and other sports for many years but the question of insurance had never been raised. The policy would cover all participants in the sport, and any member of the public who was hurt.
The board agreed to take out a £5OOO policy. An Education Department circular read to the board said
that although it was realised that if the school year opened earlier it would finish earlier and there would be less trouble about pupils leaving early, this was not possible under the present regulations. The official opening day of the school year for 1968 would be February 5.
Miss Robinson said that there had been an increase in cancellations of places in Acland House because of economic conditions. This was the reason given on some of the requests for cancellation, but a lot of people had not stated the reason.
