Pharmaceutical Ball
Six hundred guests attended the annual ball of the Canterbury branch of the Pharmaceutical Society. Banana fronds, palms, rubber plants and poinsettias formed a tropical background for beach umbrellas, gaily striped towels and arrangements of driftwood in the foyer and supper room. The supper tables were decorated with driftwood and fruit and native plants stood in the ballroom.
The guests were welcomed by Mr B. H. Mclntosh, president of the Canterbury branch of the society, and Mrs Mclntosh.
Specially invited guests included Dr. J. M. Louisson, representing the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Medical Assoication, and Mrs Louisson: Dr. L. F. Jepson, medical officer of health, and
Mrs Jepson: Mr J. H. Power, president of the Canterbury branch of the Dental Association, and Mrs Power; Mr J. F. McDougall, representing the Canterbury branch of the Society of Accountants, and Mrs McDougall; Mr M. A. Stone, president of the Canterbury division of the Chemists’ Guild, and Mrs Stone; Mr J. A. S. Manis, secretary of the Canterbury division of the Chemists’ Guild, and Mrs Marris. Mrs Mclntosh wore an empire line gown of kingfisher blue bamboo satin, with a sequinned bodice. The committee which organised the ball was Mesdames L. J. Metcalf and A. B. Munro, Messrs N. C. Bullock, H. W. Gibson, G. D. Gyde, R. S. Prebble and C. M. Sisson.
