4 To Race In Aust.
A team of four New
Zealand riders will be sent to Australia next season to contest the three international moto-cross meetings to be held there in November and December.
The three meetings will be an extension. of the sevenmatch New Zealand international series which will be held immediately afterwards.
This will be the first time a New Zealand motor-cycle scramble team has visited Australia. It is expected that an Australian team of at least four top riders will come to New Zealand for the main part of the series, as well as the invited European riders. It is possible that the New Zealand team will be kept together after the Australian meetings and ride as official
New Zealand representatives in the home series. Previously, only one rider has been chosen as the official New Zealand rider to race against the overseas experts throughout the series.
This season, the Auto-cycle Council of Australia has agreed to share part of the costs towards the international series, previously restricted to New Zealand. It will contribute $lOOO towards the cost of bringing three international riders from Europe. New Zealand will contribute £l5OO. For the first time the majority of the international meetings will be held in the South Island, mainly because of the greater interest shown here. Two will be held in Canterbury. Dates and venues approved by Moto-cross Enterprises are: New Plymouth, December 31; Auckland, January 7: Nelson, January 14: Blenheim, January 21: Timaru, January 28: Christchurch, February 4; Palmerston North, February 11.
