Rugby Club Penalised
A Marist senior player who played In a senior reserve match under the pseudonym of “John Barry,” cost his team the competition point it had gained by beating Christchurch last Saturday. A protest from the Christchurch club that A. Dalton had played in the match without being regraded was upheld by a meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union management committee last evening.
The secretary (Mr K. G. Young) said he had checked the team card and Dalton’s name was not entered on it. A letter from the Marist club explained the absence of Dalton’s name and apologised for the incident. Fijian Visit.—" The Fijian secondary school team, which will play the combined Christchurch schools at Rugby Park on August 29. should be one of the highlights of the season.” said Mr N. D. Morris. “The Canterbury half-back, L. .T. Davis, recently had been In Fiji and he came back with glowing reports of the ability of the Fijian team which is already in training. The Christchurch combined team will be chosen by Messrs P. B. Vincent and J. J.. McAuliffe, and will be selected from the 19 secondary schools in Christchurch playing either in the under-19 or secondary schools grades.
Invitation.—An "old-timers’ ” day. when former Canterbury representatives will be invited to attend a representative match at Lancaster Park, will be held on August 26, the day of the Canterbury-Auckland match.
