LITTLE HOPE
‘Mona Vale’ Purchase
Little hope for the completion of the “Mona Vale” purchase was held out yesterday by the chairman of the Regional Planning Authority (Mr E. J. Bradshaw).
Mr Bradshaw said that the Mormon Church had extended the authority’s option on the property from June 1 for 90 days, and the authority had undertaken to let the church know the position as soon as possible.
“I think the time is approaching when, in all decency, we should let them know that we cannot proceed,” he said.
Mr Bradshaw said that the authority had set up a committee with power to act on “Mona Vale,” and he would be calling a meeting of the committee at the end of this week or early next week to make a decision.
Christchurch service clubs agreed, on June 8, to try to raise money towards the £59,800 purchase price if the local bodies were prepared to contribute, but there are no signs that metropolitan area councils will alter their decisions not to.
