ESTUARY PLAN

Dredging A Benefit

Tests made with n fixed bed in the Estuary showed that some dredging would be beneficial to land drainage, the Hydraulics Research Station. Wallingford, reported to the Christchurch Drainage Board last evening.

The station wanted the river gauging to continue for another year. Limited dredging, such as for a rowing course, would be a feasible proposition, particularly if carried out in conjunction with some reclamation scheme so that there would be no net change in tidal volume, the station wrote.

The board was also advised by Professor F. M. Henderson, of Canterbury University, that a Dr. Glenne, of Norway, would be interested in a visiting appointment. Dr. Glenne has been mainlyconcerned with coastal engineering, and he told Professor Henderson he would be interested in coming to New Zealand for a year or so in research and teaching if there was work offering in his field Professor Henderson said that if the board was interested. it was possible that the university would contribute to some joint arrangement, and he would also approach the Lyttelton Harbour Board The board agreed to seek further information about Dr. Glenne and the work proposed.
