Souvenir Coins
The Post Office still had 2500 complete sets of souvenir decimal coins, the Deputy Chief Postmaster in Christchurch (Mr M. A. Johnston) said yesterday. The sets include the commemorative dollar, which is now available only by buying the set, which costs 30s. The Post Office received 11,550 sets when they were first issued about two months ago. Mr Johnston said there were still a few of the smaller sets containing the 1c to 50c coins and costing 10s. Sunny Day The temperature rose steadily in Christchurch yesterday from 25 degrees recorded at Harewood at 6 a.m. to a maximum of 52 degrees recorded at 4.15 p.m. After frosts of 10 degrees at Harewood and eight degrees at the Botanic Gardens, the weather was sunny and calm, until a light east wind blew in the afternoon. At Harewood at 9 a.m. the temperature was 34 degrees. It had risen to 44 degrees by noon and to 51 degrees by 3 p.m. At the Botanic Gardens at 3 p.m. it was 52 degrees. A temperature of 53 degrees was shown on the Government Life building gauge at 4.30 p.m. Fishery Patrol H.M.N.Z.S. Kiama, a Bathurst-class minesweeper of the fishery protection squadron, will visit Lyttelton on July 7 and 8. Commanded by Lieutenant-Commander M. C. Verran, R.N.Z.N., the ship has been on patrol duties in the southern area, and will call at Lyttelton to replenish stores.
