UNITED BETTER THAN 3-1 WIN

(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) SYDNEY. Manchester United beat New South Wales, 3-1, at Sydney yesterday. The English League soccer champion, which led 1-0 at halftime, had an even more emphatic win than the score suggests.

After repulsing spirited New South Wales raids in the opening five minutes, United settled down to dominate the match, watched by a capacity crowd of 32,000. With R. Charlton unbeatable in mid-field and G. Best always dangerous on the right wing, tremendous pressure was put on the New South Wales defence.

Hughes cracked a half volley past the United goal-keeper, A. Stepney.
