Economic Situation Affects Appeal
The economic situation was the reason given for lower provisional figures in this year’s C.0.R.5.0. Freedom From Hunger appeal in Canterbury and Westland by the district organiser (Mr G. H. Coley).

Mr Coley expressed appreciation to the 90 teams of collectors who canvassed homes in the district on Saturday. Persons that took part in the appeal came from churches, youth groups and community organisations. Many individuals also assisted. Rotary clubs provided transport. The provisional figure for Christchurch is £10,379, compared with £11,500 at the same time last year. So far pro-
visional increases in donations
have been noted in Ashburton, Rangiora, Timaru and Westport. Other provisional figures, with last year’s figures in parenthesis, are: Ashburton £1313 (£1266), Cheviot £l9B (£201), Geraldine £285 (£385),
Greymouth £656 (£941), Hokitika £437 (£478), Kaiapoi £298 (£247), Leeston district £665 (£663), Rakaia £350 (£450), Rangiora £655 (£628), Reefton £lBO (£230), Temuka £370 (£371), Timaru £2300 (£2702), Waimate £602 (£780), Westport £270 (£264).
