FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A front is moving slowly eastwards over the North Island. Another front is crossing southern New Zealand. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Light to moderate south-west-erly winds; overcast and cooler with some areas of light rain.

Kaikoura coast and central Marlborough.— Light to moderate southerlies; cloudy, with some light rain; cooler.
