Spain Qualifies For Tennis Zone Final

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) EASTBOURNE. Spain beat Britain to qualify to meet the Soviet Union in the final of the European Zone, Group A, of the Davis Cup tennis competition. M. Santana, the Spanish holder of the Wimbledon title, gave his side a winning 3-1 lead when he beat R. Taylor, Britain’s No. 1, in the first of the remaining two singles. Santana won, 6-4. 6-3, 7-5.

Spain won, 3-2. In the final singles, M. Sangster gained a consolation point for Britain by beating J. L. Arilla, 6-4, 9-11, 6-4, 6-3.

The Russians reached the group final last week by beating Chile. In Paris, South Africa completed a 5-0 win over France in their European Zone Group B semi-final tie. C. Drysdale beat F. Jauffret 6-1, 6-2, 7-5, and R. Maud, the South African youngster, beat D. Contet, 9-7, 6-2, 6-3. South Africa will meet Brazil in the group final.

Shew Jumping.—Miss K. Kusner (United States) wqn the European women’s show jumping championship at Fontainebleau, in France, by a decisive 6i points margin. Riding Untouchable and AberaU. Miss Kusner ended the three-stage competition with only five faults.
