BREAK IN POWER

Some eastern suburbs of Christchurch were without power last evening when a circuit-breaker at the Pages road sub-station of the Municipal Electricity Department opened automatically at 5.10 p.m.

Late last evening the cause of the break had not been ascertained, but it was thought to be overloading. About 2000 homes were affected.

At the time of the break many housewives probably had their ovens on high and left them on waiting for the power. Because of this there was a series of blown fuses at several sub-stations; but all the trouble was remedied by 7 p.m.
