Preference will be given to applicants who have had good experience in Bacteriology, and the successful candidate will be expected to provide strong teaching support and establish research projects in this field. The salary range for the post is SA4BOO-6340 p.a., plus a differential of SA2OO p.a. for medical qualifications. The appointee will be required to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate, levels and to supervise Honours and Ph.D. research students. At the undergraduate level the Department is responsible for teaching in the Faculties of Medicine, Science and Dental Science. Research in the Department is largely in the fields of Virology, Immunology, Epidemiology, Bacterial Genetics and cell growth. Immunochemistry and Medical Microbiology. WILLIAMS, Registrar. 3298 THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED STUDIES HEAD OF THE JOHN CURTIN SCHOOL OF MEDICAL RESEARCH THE University is taking steps to appoint a successor to the Dean of the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Ptofessor Sir Hugh Ennor, who has resigned on his appointment as Secretary of the Commonwealth Department of Education and Science. The person to be appointed wild hold a Chair in the School and will need to have had academic experience within the disciplines appropriate to the School. It is expected that he will wish to maintain his own research interests and appropriate support for this would be provided; he would not be expected to be Head of a full Department. The present interests of the School embrace biochemistry, clinical science, experimental pathology, genetics, medical chemistry, microbiology, neurophysiology, and physical biochemistry. The title and tenure of the office wilil be considered in relation to the person recommended for appointment, but his appointment as professor will be until retiring age.
