The person to be appointed wild hold a Chair in the School and will need to have had academic experience within the disciplines appropriate to the School. It is expected that he will wish to maintain his own research interests and appropriate support for this would be provided; he would not be expected to be Head of a full Department. The present interests of the School embrace biochemistry, clinical science, experimental pathology, genetics, medical chemistry, microbiology, neurophysiology, and physical biochemistry. The title and tenure of the office wilil be considered in relation to the person recommended for appointment, but his appointment as professor will be until retiring age.
