Regulations For Tractor Safety (Hew Zealand Preet Association) WELLINGTON, June 1. Safety measures intended to combat the increasing number of fatalities caused by overturning tractors have been introduced by the Government under the Tractor Safety Frame Regulations.

The regulations gazetted today ensure that farmers wishing to fit safety frames to their tractors for their own protection can be sure the frames have been tested and found suitable. It is not mandatory that tractors be fitted with safety frames. Under the regulations, no safety frame may be sold or fitted to a tractor used in agriculture unless it has a certificate of approval. “The increasing number of fatal accidents caused by overturning tractors has been a matter of great concern to the Government,” said the Minister of Labour (Mr Shand). In recent years more than 30 tractor drivers had been killed each year as a result of tractor accidents, he said. The risk of death or serious injury arising from accidents in which tractors overbalanced could be greatly reduced by the use of approved tractor safety frames. “On the evidence available, the fitting of safety frames would save at least 70 per cent of the lives lost as a result of tractors over-balanc-ing,” he said. ■•THE PRESS” "THE PRESS" Has a team or-trained operators who will be pleased to help or advise you on aU aspects of— CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING For a nominal cost "THE PRESS" daily readership of more than 70.000 FAMILIES ensures that your message reaches the right people, at the right time, at a price you ean afford BUSINESS OR PERSONAL.
