"Staggered” By Statement
“The association is staggered at the reported statement of the Building Programmer (Mr R. F. Paris) in "The Press’ yesterday”, the new president of the Canterbury Master Builders and Joiners’ Association (Mr E. W. Marriott) said last evening.
"The association considered that the position with regard to work in Christchurch is the complete reverse of the reported statement,” he said. Mr Paris said yesterday that there might not be as much construction as builders and others would like to have, but this did not mean a recession tn the Christchurch building industry.
members passed a resolution that an immediate survey of all work be made in Christchurch to assess the position. The following officers were elected: President, Mr Marriott; vice-presidents, Messrs F. R. Cullen and H. L. Stove; committee, Messrs T. H. Alexander, D. Forbes, T. W. Husband, J. H. Johns, R. R. Lamberton, C. S. Luney, P. J. K. McKie, and S. C. V. Muirson.
