SUICIDE JUMP

Pioneer A-bomb Physicist (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, May 30. A pioneer nuclear physicist who was associated with the Manhattan project which developed the first atomic bomb committed suicide yesterday by throwing himself from the top of a 17-storey block of flats at Chevy Chase, Maryland. The scientist, Mr Paul C. Aebersoid, aged 56, had been under treatment for mental depression, according to a coroner.

Mr Aebersoid retired as director of the Atomic Energy Commission’s office of isotopes development 2j years ago. Besides being associated with the development of the atomic bomb, he was also connected with the invention of the cyclotron and the use of raiodisotopes in medicine.
