Pollard 'A Sportsman '
The New Zealand test cricket all-rounder, V. Pollard, was named New Zealand Universities “Sportsman of the Year” at a dinner at Victoria University on Saturday.
The 21-year-old Pollard was given the award for his magnificent bowling performances in the test series against the Australians last summer and for leading Central Districts to victory in the Plunket Shield competition.
The Pro-Chancellor of Victoria University, Mr S. V. Simpson, made the award.
"A sportsman in defeat does not complain. A sportsman is always fair and generous. “Victor Pollard is a sportsman,” Mr Simpson said, when presenting the cup.
Last year’s winner was R. P. Welsh, of Otago, the commonwealth 3000 metres steeplechase champion and international crosscountry runner.
