POST IN A.S.R.S.
Mr D. M. Kane Appointed
Mr D. M. Kane, of Christchurch, has been appointed industrial secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. He will take up his appointment in Wellington on June 6. Mr Kane, who' is a welder at the Addington workshops, has had a long association with the trade union movement. He held various positions in the Addington branch of the A.S.R.S. before being elected to the national council of which he has been a member for 10 years. He was president for three years. He is a delegate to the Canterbury Trades Council and has been a member of the executive for the last four years.
In October, 1965, he was an observer for a group of New Zealand trade unions at the meeting of the World Federation of Trade Unions in .Warsaw and represented the A.S.R.S. at the meeting of the inland transport committee of the International Labour Office in Geneva. Mr Kane’s duties as industrial secretary will include the preparation and presentation of claims for wages and conditions before the Railways Tribunal.
