Investigation Of Cow-tail Docking
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 25. An investigation into all aspects relating to the docking of cows’ tails is currently being arranged between the S.P.C.A. and the Federated Farmers, according to the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys).
Speaking on behalf of Mr Taiboys, the Minister of Customs (Mr Shelton) said in Parliament today that no decision had yet been reached as to whether a single committee should be established to examine the matter on a national basis or whether it would be preferable to set up several regional committees to operate locally in different areas.
The Minister was replying to a question asked by Mr A. McCready (Nat., Otaki) if, in view of public interest on the question of cruelty in cow docking, whether an investigation was being undertaken. Mr Shelton said whatever form the investigation committees would take, they would be composed of representatives of veterinarians, farmers, S.P.C.A., the herd improvement association, the New Zealand Dairy Board and the Agriculture Department
