CAUSE UPSET

Enjoying a comfortable lead in the senior Rugby League championship after the completion of the first round, Addington faces the fast improving Papanui side in the main game at the Show Grounds tomorrow.

Papanui will be encouraged by the performance of Christchurch which led the championship leader for the greater part of last Saturday’s game. Christchurch proved that maintaining constant pressure against Addington is the best manner in which to contain them.

However, the pressure was not kept on for the whole game and Addington was able to produce its match-winning football in the second half. The tussle between D. McCosh (Addington) and J. Bond (Papanui) will be an interesting one. Both are stand-off halves and both have been named in the Canterbury squad.

Addington will also face strong runners in the top two youthful -players, S. Dunn and M. Napier, as well as other good inside backs in B. Allen and G. Sandford. Also, it will have the tactical ability of C. Schwass with which to contend.

This could be Addington’s hardest game to date. In the early game on the Show Grounds Hornby and Linwood meet after having an exciting first-round match. The other two matches will be played at Bradford Park, between Marist and Kaiapoi and Chris ichurch and Sydenham.
