Southland Mares "The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL. The good race-mares Golden Boa and Happy Birthday will be mated with the Chelandry Stud sire, Lomon, next spring. Golden Boa had her last race at the Southland meeting at Gore on Saturday. She finished fourth in the Gordon’s Gin Handicap. Golden Boa is a seven-year-old Cassock mare from Call Boa (dam also of Bel Boa), by Callander from Bay Boa, a Haughty Winner mare from the Balboa mare, Perboa. This family has produced several good winners, including the brilliant three-year-old filly, Red Sash.
Happy Birthday, which was bought a few months ago by Mr J. G. Alexander for his Cranlelgh Stud, was left in Southland to be mated with Lomond.
Happy Birthday, a sister to the Gore Cup winner, Happy Day, sold recently to Australia, and to Birthright and Friar’s Birthday, won the Southland Guineas as a three-year-old and proved herself in strong handicap class. She is by Kurdistan from the Royal Chief mare, Royal Birthday.
