Sir Basil Arthur gave notice of a motion relating to the fishing industry. He also gave notice of introducing a Litter Control Bill—the second Opposition private member’s measure of the session. Eleven questions were answered by Ministers. The House then debated the introduction of the Control and Reasonable Pricing Bill, by Dr. A. M. Finlay (Lab., Waitakere). It was given a first reading. Late in the afternoon the Minister of Customs (Mr Shelton) introduced the Customs Amendment Bill, which gives effect to recent resolutions on price increases. Debate on this proceeded into the evening. The closure was applied at 9.45 p.m. and after three divisions the bill was returned to the House. The ’ Social Credit leader, Mr V. F. Cracknell, voted with the Opposition on> the motion “that provision be made,” but abstained from voting in the other divisions.
