Commission Takes 87%

(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, May 22. The market at the final wool sale of the season in Invercargill today was officially described as firm on last week's Dunedin sale. Compared with recent Invercargill sales about the only major change was that the Wool Commission set a record by buying 87 per cent of the offering. As expected, the commission’s floor valuations were seldom challenged. Most bids from the trade fell well short of the commission’s, the average margin being about 5d and the maximum about Is 3d. The commission's purchases today were more than enough to fill the new 25,000-bale wool store it plans to build in Invercargill. It took the total held in Southland to more than 120,000 bales.
