HAMILTON TRIAL

Murder Charge Denied (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, May 22. A 70-year-old retired man, William Charles Norman, of Rotowaro, Huntly, pleaded not guilty in the Hamilton Supreme Court today to a charge of murdering Winifred Maud Owens, aged 68, of Hamilton. The offence is alleged to have been committed on or about October 17, 1966, at Hamilton. Mr Justice Speight is presiding. The case is being heard before a jury of 11 men and one woman. Mr B. K. Shenkin appears for Norman. Mr K. L. Sandford, with him Mr V. R. Jamieson, is prosecuting. The hearing is expected to last four days. At least 21 witnesses for the Crown will be called.
